Without Half Full there would be no Vintage Girl Studios

Last weekend VGS had the pleasure to work with ladies attending a "Women's Forward" (as opposed to a Retreat) with Half Full at the Historic Publick House Inn in Sturbridge MA. Half Full is a wonderful company that helps businesses and individuals overcome obstacles to move forward professionally and personally.
Without Half Full there would be no Vintage Girl Studios.

I met Half Full's Rebecca Twitchell in early 2010. My husband had done some work with her and suggested that the two of us meet. At the time I was a crossroads professionally (though I didn't yet realize it) and was trying to find that elusive balance between my professional and my personal life. I loved what I was doing, but was having conflict with my co-workers to the point that It was starting to effecting me physically and emotionally.
I remember our meeting so well as she listened intently to my story.  Then she asked me the question I needed to hear. "Why can't you go on your own?  What is holding you back?  If you are so passionate, why stop?"
I had week of soul searching.  Questioning whether if I changed this or that maybe I could keep on working things out with everyone. Then in a moment of clarity, I could hear Rebecca's questions and I knew that I had the answers.  YES. I can do this. I will start over. I will get organized.  Then my strategic plan fell in to place.
With the love and support of my wonderful husband Christian, I moved on and Vintage Girl Studios was born.
Rebecca is still a wonderful cheerleader as my business has grown. Last weekend was the first time we worked together professionally and I know the women who attended this Forward went away energized and excited.

Thank you Nickle Baby Studios and Styling by Bombshell Beauties. We were able to show the ladies that evening a slideshow of the images that were taken that day.

Revamped: Las Vegas PT2 The Neon Museum/ Bone Yard

Last Month VGS had the pleasure of working in Las Vegas. I had such amazing time working with Darla Lush, Michelle Larae, and Michelle Gutierrez  at this truly unique location. The Neon Museum/Boneyard is where all the old signs of the strip are donated. It has been under construction and not open to public until October 27th. It really has a old Las Vegas feel and the colors are amazing.. It was a long time dream to photograph there even before I was doing vintage/ pin-up photography.

Vintage Events

This summer I had the Pleasure of attending a few vintage events.

The Jazz Age Lawn Party, NYC

Jazz Age Lawn Party presented by Michael Arenella and His Dreamland Orchestra.
Under a shady grove of centuries-old trees, caressed by fresh sea air, a sprawling green surrounded by historic officers’ quarters and 18th century naval ramparts, becomes the setting for a true Gatsby affair.

Newport Vintage Dance Week, Newport, RI

Hosted by The Commonwealth Vintage Dancers, Travel Back in Time to the summer playground of the Gilded Age. Perfect your dancing skills with classes taught by leading experts on vintage dance. Experience the breathtaking opulence of America ’s finest ballrooms as you dance in Newport’s famous mansions. Let yourself be immersed in a bygone era as you sip tea by the shore...  Sadly this is the last year of this event. They do however have many other events in the Boston area.

Chifferobe, Coming to town near you.

Chifferobe is both a traveling club and an event production company. Whether you are looking for an extraordinary night on the town or a private affair to remember, Chifferobe offers exceptional events for you.
Our club nights take place at venues throughout the North East, though we are based in Providence, RI. These occasions are inspired by the follies, supper clubs, and USO shows of bygone eras.

ReVamped/Rosecliff

Monday evening I attended a vintage event at Rosecliff Mansion in Newport, RI. The house is one of the most beautiful mansions in Newport. Rosecliff has inspired me since I was a little girl going on mansion tours with my grade school. I felt the need to take some images of my good friend and fellow photographer Nicole Gesmondi in this setting.

I will have another blog about The Commonwealth Vintage Dancers' Newport dance week next week. To see more photos from this session go to the VGS Facebook page.

ReVamped Queenie at Horseneck beach.

This week Revamped session was with the amazing model Queenie at Horseneck Beach Westport, Ma.
This session was inspired by photographer and model Bunny Yeager.
Born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S. Yeager became one of the most photographed models in Miami. After retiring from modeling, she began her career behind the camera. She met Bettie Page in 1954, and took most of the photographs of her that year.[1] Along with photographer Irving Klaw, Yeager played a role in helping to make Page famous, particularly with her photos in Playboy magazine.[1] Yeager is also credited with discovering the model Lisa Winters.[citation needed] Following Page's retirement, Yeager remained a successful photographer. She took the well-known still images of Ursula Andress on the beach in the 1962 James Bond film Dr. No, and discovered many other notable models.[1] In 1968 she played the role of a Swedish masseuse opposite Frank Sinatra in Lady In Cement.[1]

When I first started to really photograph Pin- up a few years ago in my searches I had come across Bunny Yeager's website.
At the time was was still working. I had order a bunch of her books and they all came signed. How amazing and what an inspiration. I still have her business card in a place or honor in my studio.

Cotton Club ReVamped

This week's Vintage Girl Studios ReVamped Session was inspired Harlem's Cotton Club.

The Cotton Club was a famous jazz music night club located in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City which operated from 1923 to 1940, most notably during America's Prohibition Era lasting from 1919 to 1933. The club was a white-only establishment even though it featured many of the greatest African American entertainers of the era including Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Adelaide Hall, Count Basie, Bessie Smith, Cab Calloway, The Nicholas Brothers, Lottie Gee, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Josephine Baker and Ethel Waters. During its heyday, the Cotton Club served as a hip meeting spot featuring regular "Celebrity Nights" on Sundays which featured celebrity guests such as Jimmy Durante, George Gershwin, Sophie Tucker, Paul Robeson, Al Jolson, Mae West, Richard Rodgers, Irving Berlin, Eddie Cantor, Fanny Brice, Langston Hughes, Judy Garland, Moss Hart, and New York City Mayor Jimmy Walker, among others.
