ReVamped:Star and Stripes

This weeks ReVamped series inspired image is Baron Von Lind's Stars and Stripes. We loved the composition with the American Flag. I did need some help from our in house designer Nickel Baby Studios.

It seemed appropriate this week since it is the fourth.

ReVamped Queenie at Horseneck beach.

This week Revamped session was with the amazing model Queenie at Horseneck Beach Westport, Ma.
This session was inspired by photographer and model Bunny Yeager.
Born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, U.S. Yeager became one of the most photographed models in Miami. After retiring from modeling, she began her career behind the camera. She met Bettie Page in 1954, and took most of the photographs of her that year.[1] Along with photographer Irving Klaw, Yeager played a role in helping to make Page famous, particularly with her photos in Playboy magazine.[1] Yeager is also credited with discovering the model Lisa Winters.[citation needed] Following Page's retirement, Yeager remained a successful photographer. She took the well-known still images of Ursula Andress on the beach in the 1962 James Bond film Dr. No, and discovered many other notable models.[1] In 1968 she played the role of a Swedish masseuse opposite Frank Sinatra in Lady In Cement.[1]

When I first started to really photograph Pin- up a few years ago in my searches I had come across Bunny Yeager's website.
At the time was was still working. I had order a bunch of her books and they all came signed. How amazing and what an inspiration. I still have her business card in a place or honor in my studio.

Cotton Club ReVamped

This week's Vintage Girl Studios ReVamped Session was inspired Harlem's Cotton Club.

The Cotton Club was a famous jazz music night club located in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City which operated from 1923 to 1940, most notably during America's Prohibition Era lasting from 1919 to 1933. The club was a white-only establishment even though it featured many of the greatest African American entertainers of the era including Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Adelaide Hall, Count Basie, Bessie Smith, Cab Calloway, The Nicholas Brothers, Lottie Gee, Ella Fitzgerald, Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Nat King Cole, Billie Holiday, Josephine Baker and Ethel Waters. During its heyday, the Cotton Club served as a hip meeting spot featuring regular "Celebrity Nights" on Sundays which featured celebrity guests such as Jimmy Durante, George Gershwin, Sophie Tucker, Paul Robeson, Al Jolson, Mae West, Richard Rodgers, Irving Berlin, Eddie Cantor, Fanny Brice, Langston Hughes, Judy Garland, Moss Hart, and New York City Mayor Jimmy Walker, among others.

Happy New Year!

2011 was a great year for Vintage Girl Studios!

The winter has been busy as our holiday schedule was packed and we have been preparing for our future in our new creative space.

We are so excited for 2012 and wanted to share what is in the works with you.

We Are Open! VGS on Etsy

Our wardrobe is getting so out of control that we have opened an Etsy store to make room for the new items coming in monthly.

At the moment we have a lot of classic lingerie that was donated to the studio. Some items still have the tag on them and some of it is gently worn.We will be retiring some of our wardrobe to keep images fresh and exciting to us too.
Check out our Store.

VGS Goes Mobile!

We have just established our QR Code. (A QR Code is a matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by QR scanners, mobile phones with a camera, and smartphones.)
You will be seeing it on our advertising and public displays.

Many New Things on the Horizon.

Creative Sessions will be returning shortly after Valentine's Day with our new series, REVAMPED, Images inspired by sirens of stage and silent screen.
The Revamped series will be making it debut on in a cafe on Newbury Street Boston late spring.

VGS has been so busy that we haven't been able to keep up with our blogs, FB and Twitter as much we would like. If you are a student looking for an internship this spring and summer would like to join our team. Please send your resume to vintagegirlstudios@gmail.com

Events and great images are in the works! Come back and visit soon!
